Akira Chiwaki Memorial – Sunday April 13

I’m writing with some sad news. Akira Chiwaki, a local swing dancer, died last week. Akira had been dancing swing since 1999 and went out to various venues on a regular basis.

There will be a memorial service on Sunday, April 13 from 2-3pm
Unitarian Universalist Church of Berkeley
1 Lawson Rd, Kensington, CA 94707
in the Sanctuary

Also, I’m collecting remembrances of Akira from dancers to give to his family. If you knew him, please take a moment to write something you appreciated about him, or maybe a memory/story you have of him.

Please send your appreciations/remembrances to Brandee@CuriosityInMotion.com by Friday April 11th.

Do spread the word to any other dancers who may have known and enjoyed dancing with this sweet man.

You can name the Three Amigos

Hush Puppies were really trendy for the regular world but you just wore them for dancing

Took your first class from Johnny & Carrie, or from a guy wearing a snake around his neck

You danced at LitP on the bandshell, in the rain (and one time, in the snow)

You started rock climbing after trying it during the exchange party at Mission Cliffs

You danced with someone wearing roller skates

You remember when hula lindy referred to using a hoop

You wore bleyers or blochs

What’s Happening with SwingTalk?

So you may have been visiting out of habit lately and saw that we were down for quite a while (thank you to those who emailed to let this busy admin know).

And now you’ve noticed some changes.

Well, here’s the skinny”

The original web host on which SwingTalk was hosted recently performed some type of upgrade to their server which then caused the old forum software to break.

And, yes, that software was OLD, circa 2003 — so yeah, if computer years is anything like dog years, then we’re talking ancient!

Anyhow, I finally took this incident as the opportunity to move the site to one of my other hosts and to install newer software, and so here we are.

I have some ideas on what to do here, and hope to implement them in the days and weeks to come.

If you have any ideas or would like to contribute, feel free to leave a comment.

Thanks!

-Dave
