(IMG:http://www.spaceturtle.us/images/dancing-turkey.gif) Thanksgiving Lindy in the Park - LITE

On Thanksgiving DAY (Thursday, November 22, 2007), do something different ... go to Lindy in the Park - LITE!

Enjoy FREE (as always) swing dancing to the tunes of DJ JEFF YIH!

Happening at the same time, same place as the regular LitP (11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Golden Gate Park.)
But, remember: it's on THURSDAY, not Sunday!

LitP-Lite on Thanksgiving is a great way to burn off some calories before the big feast!

We won't be having a potluck, just MUSIC AND DANCING! So you can save your appetite for Thanksgiving dinner with family/friends.

The location is in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, on the sidewalk/bridge next to John F Kennedy Drive, basically where 9th Avenue would intersect JFK Drive, if 9th Avenue were to continue into the park. (You can get there by walking in from Fulton Street at 8th or 10th Avenues.) For a better description of the location (including driving directions), visit www.lindyinthepark.com.

Lindy in the Park - LITE means that we use a smaller sound system, and it's endorsed by, but not run by, the official LitP crew. Also, it's a holiday, so the teachers get a BREAK, and that means NO SWING LESSON.

Hope to see you there!

Yahooo!

Anybody want to help spread the word about this TOTALLY FREE AND TOTALLY FUN event?

Print out the flyers HERE, cut 'em up, and pass 'em out to your friends or wherever you go. The more the merrier, on Thanksgiving Day!

Cut 'em up and Pass 'em out ... could be a squaredancing move ????

THIS IS GRASSROOTS, BABY!!!!!

If you're excited about Thanksgiving Lindy in the Park - LITE, help us spread the word!

Dave Wong posted us on lindyinthepark.com. So if you want to tell people about this event, tell them to go to lindyinthepark.com!

If you're really revved up about the idea of dancing on Thanksgiving Day, PRINT OUT FLYERS and give them out to dancers ... like if you'll be at Lindy in the Sproul in Berkeley, or Cat's Corner, Sunnyvale Swing, the 9:20 Special, 200 Grand, Friday Night Blues, Doghouse, Lindy in the Park, Julie's Supper Club, Swing Central, Verdi Club ....

Spread the word, it's FREE!!!!!

... And ... DID YOU KNOW ... Thanksgiving is only 2 weeks from TOMORROW????? It sure feels like it's coming early this year!

PHOTOS from Lindy in the Park -LITE at
Thanksgiving last year, and
the 4th of July

I hope the weather holds out for us! Last year it was raining cats and dogs on Wednesday night, but the weather was clear as a bell, beautiful and sunny, the following morning (Thanksgiving Day) ... as you see in this photo! What a gorgeous day! I hope we'll be so lucky again this year!

Pilgrim Hat. Check.
Shoes with Buckles. Check.
Corn and Squash. Check.

ARE YOU ready for THANKSGIVING DAY?

It's ONLY 1 WEEK AWAY!

Not to sound terribly alarmist or anything ... hee hee. Wedesday night Jeff and I will be preparing for the big day by shaking some tail feathers at Cat's Corner ... a great prelude to LitP-Lite at 11:00 a.m. Thursday ... can't wait.

Gobble, gobble ...

It's less than 48 hours before LitP - LITE ...

Got some updates for ya!

Just checked the weather forecast for THURSDAY, and it's looking

FANTABURIFFIC!

Thursday: A mainly sunny sky. High 64F. Winds NNE at 5 to 10 mph.

Weather forecast is pretty much abundant sunshine all week long!
Yipppieeee!

AND ... the museum where people usually go to freshen up or refill their water bottles or take care of other business ....THE DEYOUNG will be CLOSED on THANKSGIVING DAY. So keep that little factoid in mind ... I think there are public restrooms near the Japenese Tea Gardens.

JFK Drive will be closed as usual.

END OF ANNOUNCEMENTS!

Over and out,
CK

DJ JEFF YIH checking in!

What the CalicoKitty said, looks to be decent weather for the forecasts. This year, i'll be trudginig out my (battery powered) laptop for a stupendous selection of tunes and some of these are songs THAT''S NEVER BEEN PLAYED BEFORE AT A LITP event or possibly any swing event. Is that good or bad, you get to decide

I'll be serving up a hearty serving of my vintage-to-trad-jazz-neo-and-beyond swing mix, seasoned LIGHTLY with some very special selections for your Thanksgiving merriment!!!

As those of you who've been to our last Lite event (last thanksgiving and july 4th) we have a pretty decent turnout of LITP -regulars.

So come on out and do a swingout or two before heading out to your thanksgiving feast!!!

-DJ Jeff Yih checking out.

Oh and the calicokitty says "BRING DECORATIONS FOR THE THANKSGIVING SPIRIT".
We'll be busting out the “pilgrim turkey” on a hay bale (courtesy of Ross Dress For less sale items) AND a pilgrim turkey windsock! Bring anything which will contribute to this whimsical thanksgiving ambiance.

AND SEE EVERYONE TOMORROW ON TURKEY DAY.

But only after a fantastical night at Cat's Corner one year anniversary party TONIGHT!!

Weather update from the trenches...

I just got a call from the onsite committee...

Here's the report:

"Sunny, stop,

You can see clear to the ocean, stop,

Stop on by, stop,

Come out and dance, stop!"

I'll stop there.

Wow! What a beautiful day! Thanks Jeff and Rachel for making this a perfect Thanksgiving. I'm thankful for all of that great music and fun dancing! It also looks like quite a few of us added our thanks to the LITP crew and made a donation to the equipment fund. I hope everyone who has been touched by the wonderful times they have had at LITP will look into their hearts and wallets and give a donation too. As I understand it, Hep Jen will be adding a donation button to her web site in the next few days. Tis' the season of giving folks! Let's give back to the people who have given so much to the community for the past 11 years.

Yes, Rebecca, it was awesome!

I never posted back because I was so blown away by Jeff's truly inspired three-hour set ... I was planning to post his playlist here, but I didn't know how. In December 2007 we got busy moving to a new house, and my computer didn't work at the new place (for months!!!), and so the time went by, and I still haven't learned how to post the playlist ... yadda yadda yadda ... suffice it to say, my train got stopped at Procrastination Station.

Anyway ... we did raise about $500 for the regular Lindy in the Park that day, thanks to Trish who sent her son Laker to give us a collection box, and of course thanks to all the dancers who answered the call to pitch in and help out. When Ken saw how much dinero was in the collection box, he was truly touched.

I actually didn't take very many pics, only a few at the beginning, because the music was so good, I never got a chance to grab my camera again. We all had so much joy from all the great music and dancing, with special surprises thrown in for Thanksgiving, and not the usual chicken and random food songs either!!! (Not that I have anything against chicken and random food songs. :) ) "Inspired and original" ... that's how'd I describe it! Randy organized a group photo after everything was over, and that was really precious. The weather was gorgeous, and it was one of my very most favorite days.

Click here to see the pics from Thanksgiving 2007.
